Allergies?

Suffering from allergies? The cause could be your A/C filter.
Checking your a/c filters monthly could save you headache-and money. The air quality in your home could be worse than outdoors. Dirty filters can cause uneven airflow, allergies, raise energy bills and possibly make for costly repairs to your a/c system.

Changing or cleaning your air filters can keep your air conditioning system running efficient, improve the air quality of your home, and reduce your energy bills.

The first of the month is around the corner. Check those filters!

Things to check before you call for service:

Check to see if your thermostat is set correctly.
Replace thermostat batteries. (only if batteries are required).
Check the air filter.
Check to see if the furnace cabinet doors are secured. (loose cabinet door can disengage the door switch)
Make sure all air vents are open and air is blowing. (if little or no air is blowing then turn thermostat off and call for service)
Check to see if the main AC breaker is in the on position. (reset breaker by turning breaker all the way off and then back on)
Make sure the furnace power switch is in the on position. (looks like a light switch that is connected to the furnace)
If all checks are completed and it is still not working then turn the system to the off position at the thermostat and call for service immediately. Never try a diy heating and air repair beyond this point unless you are a licensed HVAC contractor.

Things home owners can do that will improve system performance:

Change the filter regularly
Open all air vents
Wash outdoor coil with water hose. (acid cleaning will still need to be performed periodically but washing with water may prolong the need to have this work done)
Have a licensed company perform regular maintenance. (twice a year for heating and air)
Have a programmable thermostat installed if you don’t already have one. (saves hundreds of dollars a year)
If needed-remove limbs, bushes, shrubs, debri or grass that may be choking the outdoor portion of your air conditioner.
Clean air ducts every 10 years
